I have searched and searched all over NL for George Barnes, I don’t think he was a Barnes, all I know about him is that he was born between 1876-1879 and his parents both died when he was young. I honestly think he was raised by a Barnes man from Twillingate, maybe a relative?? I cannot find a birth or baptism cert for him, he married Elizabeth (Bessie) Rendell from Botwood in 1901. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

You may already have your answer but thought I would reply.

I have a couple George Barnes in my family tree. Each generation has one. My Barnes family was originally from Harbour Grace (the first John Barnes was from Wimborne, Dorset and Married Louisa Tucker in 1821, Carbonear. All their children were born in Harbour Grace). From Harbour Grace some floated to Boot Harbour, Pilleys Island, Little Bay, St. Johns, and then off to Toronto and all over. I checked, none of my George Barnes married Bessie Rendell from Botwood (that I have found), but if you have any connections to the Barnes family from these places I might be able to help you a bit.

    Lisa
