I am looking for information on any Whelans from Spaniard’s Bay.

Of particular interest is Matthew Whelan. Matthew married Alice or Alicia Delaney in Bay Roberts on December 7, 1849. They had at least one child, Mary Ann (Whelan) Dwyer.

Matthew married a second time on May 28, 1859 in Carbonear. His bride was Frances “Fanny” Ryan. This couple had at least three children, Matthew William (abt 1864), Frances “Fanny”(abt. 1865) and Mary (1867).

I also have a suspicion that the Spaniard’s Bay Whelans originated in Brigus. If you have any information about this, I would love to discuss.

Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated. Matthew was my Great Great Grandfather.
