I’ve been doing research on my Great Grandfather (Henry Downs, son for John Downs and Mary Dowms (McCormack). I came across Henry’s Obit from 1911, which mentioned that he was born on the family farm in Freshwater Valley. I also found his father John in two of the St. John’s registers listing the his house address as 10 Freshwater Road (a location that the archives in St. Johns tells me has be business/residential in town since the early 1800s.

Would anyone beable to locate where Freshwater Vally is on a current map? There is a deliniation in the 1897 Legislature report on voting districts, and I’m certain that the people of the era would know exactly the landmarks mentionsed, but there has been 149 years of progress and as well as the renaming and moving of roads.
