Hello Raymond. Work on my genealogy leads to the possibility that my paternal Great Grandfather James WHITE (of St. Brendan’s, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland) may(?) be the same James WHITE who built the schooner “Northern Lass” for City of St. John’s merchants “ST. JOHN & FENNELL”. This firm had a substantial grocery business on Duckworth St. in downtown St. John’s. Both family names WHITE and FENNELL appear at St. Brendan’s so I suspect that is how they were aquainted and that fish (very likely salt cod) was their business interest. The question, of course, remains as to whether or not your William FENNELL intersects any aspect of this research … so … if I discover anything that might be of interest I will drop you a note here. Regards, Paul James WHITE

Hello Margaret. I have nothing to offer at this point but I am now investigating FOLEY families of Placentia Bay and St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland with particular focus on the family of my paternal Great-Grandmother Alice FOLEY of St. Bride’s (Placentia Bay). It is my understanding that this FOLEY line will lead me to Co. Wexford Ireland but it is entirely possible that your GG Grandfather Edward FOLEY will intersect somewhere in this research … so I’ll let you know if that happens. In the meantime get back to me on how you know (i.e., What source are you referring to?, etc.) that Edward FOLEY was born in Co. Waterford. Regards, Paul James White
