    Maurice,
Forgive me for not seeing your response for so long. I’d appreciate any info you have on the Eagan family. I will be visiting St. John’s for the first time next month, along with an older brother who made the trip in 1991. My whole purpose of the visit is to do some family research and, perhaps equally important, to simply sit and absorb the atmosphere and life of the place. Hard to imagine what it was like when our father was born there in 1900.

I will also send you a quick note using my regular email. I’ve come to this site so infrequently, that I’d like to make a connection there too. Thanks very much.

    Maurice,
Haven’t log on here since my posting, so I apologize for the delay. But thank you very much for responding.
My family tree shows a Dan Eagan born in 1859, probably in Newfoundland; he was my father’s uncle, but I don’t know anything else about him, even when he died. He would have been 23 at the time, if that was he who married Elizabeth in 1882. My grandfather, Daniel’s brother John, was a “baker and fancy baker” in St. John’s. Two of the names you list — John and Leo — were two of my dad’s seven brothers. No Joseph in that line up, though. Given how rough I’m finding some family records, your notes seem to hit on some obviously true connections.
I’ve just recently started this search into the family history. It seems overwhelming, but fascinating.
