ParticipantHello Pardy Researchers,
A number of FHSNL members have written on this subject. Margaret Mullins had the same info on the CDs she put together:
The story is that a Pardy family was the very first inhabitants of Burin. (Burin’s early inhabitants were buried at Tite’s Island, a small island in Burin Harbour, about one acre in extent, which was used early as a burial place for the dead of all denominations. The neighbourhood was very early inhabited and burials on this island must have taken place at a very early period.)
At Tite’s Island were two headstones to Pardys:
[1] “In loving memory of James Pardy who departed this life January 18, 1783, aged 76 years – (so born circa 1707).
A loving husband and a father kind
From care and labour free is here confined.
His life with Charity conspicuous shown
And Justice, Meekness, Patience were his own,
Religion thro’ long sickness was his Guide,
And in the faith of Christ he lived and died.”
(From this beautiful epitaph it can be seen that James Pardy was married and had children.)
[1] Three Pardy brothers of Stepaside, Burin who perished in a snowstorm in the woods between Garnish and Burin, February 27, 1791 – namely: Henry, 33 (born circa 1758); John, 27 (born circa 1764); and Jethro, 25 (born circa 1766).I [ Les Winsor ] first recorded these headstones in a book on Place names by Bishop Howley [ RCEC ]. Tite’s Island in Burin Harbour was also called Pardy’s Island.
Another Researcher sent me this: William Pardy of Little Burin, Nfld of Lychett Minster, son of Thomas and brother to Sam & Thomas. Wife Catherine and sons John, Thomas, William & daug Mary.
There was no date attached when received but it is a place tocheck out!Take Care,

ParticipantHello Eric,
I’m not related to the Hearns but I went through the Brigus Roman Catholic Cemetery a few years back and took a photo of James Hearn’s headstone.
Maybe your Hearns are related??
The stone said: In memory of his wife Mary A. Hearn, alias Treacy Who departed this life March the 22, 1819 Aged 20 years. Hearn, James, Michael & Matthew Sacred to the Memory of James HEARN ??? of Carrick on Suir, Ireland Died Jan? 24 1855 Aged 68? Born c 1787. Also his son Michael HEARN Died October 18 183? ???? And Mathew HEARN Died April 17th 18?2 Aged ??Maybe there is something in the Collier’s Headstone Collection that te Society has or on the Grand Bank’s Site.
I’m related to John Newell whose ancestry is from the Dock in the Port De Grave area. Ask the Family History Society for my email if you want to conact me!

ParticipantHello Anne,
I never checked my file for your Abraham but the Bradburys have been in Bay Roberts since the 1600’s and they were also in Torbay at an early date! My gggg grandmother Mary Garland, wife of John Moors of Freshwater Carbonear had a sister Annie who Garland who was born c 1710 and she m Stephen Bradbury of Bay Roberts! There are lots of Bradburys in the St Pauls CE at Harbour Grace back to 1775 when the records began.
