Hello. I’m researching a John Barnes that married Louisa Tucker in 1821. He was from Dorset as well. I ordered his marriage record from the church which told me the witnesses. One of them was a William Barnes. John and Louisa settled in Harbour Grace, but after 3 children I can’t find them. Their sons George and Ebenezer Barnes I was able to follow down the line. I was never able to find William with certainty after the wedding in 1821. I’m just going back to researching them all again, I’m hoping something new has been added online.

I’m a Barnes, John Barnes is my 4th Great Grandfather. At the time of his marriage in Carbonear he lists Wimborne (Minster), Dorset as his home. Louisa was living in Harbour Grace.

If you are interested in comparing notes let me know.

    Hello,

You may already have your answer but thought I would reply.

I have a couple George Barnes in my family tree. Each generation has one. My Barnes family was originally from Harbour Grace (the first John Barnes was from Wimborne, Dorset and Married Louisa Tucker in 1821, Carbonear. All their children were born in Harbour Grace). From Harbour Grace some floated to Boot Harbour, Pilleys Island, Little Bay, St. Johns, and then off to Toronto and all over. I checked, none of my George Barnes married Bessie Rendell from Botwood (that I have found), but if you have any connections to the Barnes family from these places I might be able to help you a bit.

    Lisa
