We are trying to identify the parents and/or siblings of John Doyle a seaman, who was born in about 1842-1843, either in St. John’s or in one of the near-by outports. He married Mary Doyle in 1870 – daughter of John Doyle and Anne Hurley of St. John’s. John and Mary had four children – Charles, Mary Teresa, Agnes and John (Jr.). John (Sr.) died in 1898 at the age of about 56 while at sea. Most of the family are buried in the Belvedere Cemetery (http://ngb.chebucto.org/Cemetery/cem-belv-rc-sect-ii-sje.shtml).

We have found no record of his baptism in the registers of the St. John the Baptist Basilica. Unfortunately, baptismal information for 1843 (around the time of his birth) is missing.

In addition we have searched online sources, including Ancestry.ca and Familysearch.org – as well as announcements of his death in local papers, and official records of his death at sea – but without success.
