I know a lot about the subject William, from birth in Dorset, England, until he married in Quebec in 1803. Seemingly he returned to his hometown with his wife Martha nee Browster or Brouster and was first recorded when his first daughter was born in 1815. William had been a seaman and working for the British Admiralty, probably involved with the Indian Wars and then the battles with the French over Quebec. Family history has it that William stayed in “British North America” and worked as a fisherman off the Grand Banks. William was “lost at sea during a great storm” on the 24th Nov 1824, so says family papers.
Does anybody have knowledge of this William or Martha? They might have had a young son called William, dob about 1805/5.
There is a headstone at Bishop’s Cove for a William Summers, similar dob, identical death date. Could this be coincidence?
This couple are my 3x Great Grandparents.
