    Greetings from the UK.

Barton William Powlett Wallop (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/174477153/barton_william_powlett_wallop) had a son who died Barton Wallop Powlett.

Barton Wallop Powlett’s name at birth (in Newfoundland?) is a mystery. I know he added the Powlett late in life to get an inheritance. I have seen his name as

William Barton Powlett Wallop Barton William Powlett
    Barton William Powlett William Powlett
Barton William Powlett Wallop William Powlett
William Barton Powlett Wallop William Powlett

It would be interesting to see a birth certificate if that exists!

I think he was born in 1808 but in the 1881 census he self reports as being 60 or 69 (it is not clear – he should be 73). His gravestone has him dying in 1886 in his 79th year so 1808 seems likely.

Are there birth certificates from that time in New Brunswick/Newfoundland?

Where he was born is tricky. The 1881 Census has him writing “Saint John’s, Newfoundland” but his father was buried in “Saint John” in New Brunswick. I can imagine some confusion there.

No idea if anyone will see this or be able to help but thank you if you get this far.

    I found this http://ngb.chebucto.org/Vstats/pre-1891-st-john-ang-bap-1796-1815-vol-26b-sjc.shtml

His sister is on the list and it appears he is born in the period with the stolen ledger. But he is definitely born in Saint John’s.

Searching New Brunswick records I found a sad story about how he accidentally shot a resident dead when he was 10 years old in 1818.
