ParticipantHi Patricia,
My 3rd great-grandfather was John Byrne born approx 1822. He married Mary Dooling I believe and they had 3 children that I can confirm;
John 1840-1918 married Mary Simmonds
James 1843-1870 (unknown if married, family story says he was thrown over a cliff in Conche by the French, they later realized they had the wrong guy)
Mary Ann 1946-1918 who I believe married a McGrathI have come across two other children Timothy (b.1837) and Catherine (b.1844) no other info on them ..perhaps died as young children.
John died approx. 1855 and his widow married a George Roffe/Ralph and they gave birth to my Great great grandmother Annie Ralph whom married Joseph Emberly in Conche. Annie died from a fall through a fish flake.
If any of this links into the Byrne families you are aware of in your research would love to hear back from you.March 2, 2022 at 9:09 pm in reply to: Edward and Elizabeth (Dormady) SNOW Family of Harbour Grace #6166Barbara Sopotyk
ParticipantMy 3rd great grandmother was Ellen Dormity (..lol..another new spelling of possibly Darmody/Dormody. She was born somewhere between 1826-1832. She married John Emberly in the Argentia Parish in 1851. They lived in Conche. Perhaps your Elizabeth & my Ellen are related somehow. Ellen’s marriage record was located in Argentia – unable to get all of their childrens records as a fire destroyed a lot of records
I also noticed an Elizabeth “Simmonds” – married into the Snow family. The Simmonds from the Conche area are specifc about their name spelt with a “d” and they were RC unlike the Simmons who were from other areas and not RC.
