I am renewing my interest in my Newfoundland family connections and would like to contact anybody who has information.
My Grandfather was Absalom Parsons b 1868 in Bears Cove/Harbour Grace. His parents were John Parsons & Mary Catherine Martin. Absalom “went to sea on the whalers” at the age of 11 and married my grandmother in Liverpool, England in 1898 starting the Liverpool “clan”
John Parsons moved to Lynn MA USA in 1898 with several children but not Mary of whom we can find no death or burial record. We believe John returned to Newfoundland and is buried there somewhere. Again we have no record.
I have quite a lot of info on the English and MA parts of the family but can find no info on the remaining Harbour Grace/Bears Cove relations. I assume there must have been family remaining in Harbour Grace/ Bears Cove but I have no way of knowing!
Is there anybody in the area who could be descendants of these folk, or have researched the Parsons (or Martin, Pippy or Pynn, also in my line) line whom I could could contact with a view to kick starting my search again?
    I would be most grateful.

    Hi Roy,

I am doing some research on the Parsons from Newfoundland. My ancestor’s name is Henry Parsons (1806 or 1810, to 1871). He was born in St. John’s.
His father was Jonathan Parsons (1777-1831), originally of Harbour Grace.
And his mother was (Mary) Charlotte Butler (1787-1838). Henry immigrated to the United States, and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In particular, I’m trying to find out if this Henry Parsons is the same man who first married Harriet Bearns in Nfld, only to later divorce her in the US and then marry Mary Swan Tunison. Henry and Mary had a son named Henry (1858-1943). I’m trying to find out about Henry Sr.’s parents — if indeed they are Jonathan and Charlotte. Thanks for any info you may have!

    Tim
